200isl: RARE Old Map Turkey Arabia Iran Mediterranean. This beautifully engraved, hand colored map is titled "Carte de la Turquie, de la Arabie et de la Perse…." It was drawn by G. de L’Isle, and published in Paris in 1701. The title is surrounded by a decorative border, which includes three Turkish figures. There are many instructive notes engraved into the map image, explaining the significance of various areas throughout the region. On the right side of the map, next to Tartarie, de L’Isle appears to have combined the Caspian and Aral Seas into one body of water. This map is in very good condition, with only a few very light spots of foxing and no significant blemishes. 20x26 in. $400



201isl: RARE Antique Islamic Mecca Pilgrimage Scenes. Engraved scenes from the Dec. 23, 1865 issue of Harper’s Weekly, titled "The Pilgrimage to Mecca." The image in the center shows an aerial view of the city of Mecca. Images around the edges show pilgrims on their way to the city. There are several small holes along the center horizontal crease, where the paper was originally attached to the publication. The holes are visible, but not distracting. 16x22 in. $60



202isl: 1794 D’Anville Map: Iran, Persian Empire. Beautifully hand colored, engraved map, drawn by D’Anville and published in 1794 by Laurie & Whittle. Title is "A New Map of the Empire of Persia, from Mons. D’Anville, First Geographer to the Most Christian King." An area covering roughly the location of modern Iran is shown, divided into smaller, individually colored provinces. Cities and towns are marked, as well as major roads and geographical features. The map title is surrounded by a decorative frame. This map is in great condition, and would look wonderful in a frame! 20x28 in. $300



203isl: Page from the August 8,1925 issue of The Graphic photogravure with four pictures of the Persian Gulf including one with Shiek Hamid from the Isle of Bahrain. The page is titled "Oil Wells in a Troubled Land". Caption reads "Some views of a typical oil well and the sort of country over which a recent attack was made on a Persian village by several hundred Arab marauders." This sepia toned photogravure is in very good condition. 15x10 in. $50



204isl: Page from the March 28, 1925 issue of The Graphic photogravure with 6 pictures of local life including a pontoon bridge across the Tigris River at Baghdad. The page is titled "The Promise of Oil in Irak" The text reads " 'Mespots' threatened simplicities, The Convention for the exploitation of petrolium in Irak (sic) having now been signed, it is likely that the 'simple life' of Mesopotamia, for which Sir Samuel Hoare and Mr. Amery have left to consider the question of air control, will undergo transformation" This sepia toned photogravure is in excellent condition 15x10 in. $50
