It contains three images, all pertaining to the North Hudson County Railway in New Jersey. The images are subtitled as follows: 1) General View from fifteenth Street; 2) Map; and 3) View Looking South. Nice view of the Hudson River, with sailing boats in the distance. 8x10 in. $60 112nj: 1865 Nast: Scenes in Long Branch New Jersey. Large hand colored engraving, drawn by Thomas Nast and published in Harpers Weekly. Title is "Our Watering Places: Views at Long Branch." Features a view of the crowded beach at Long Branch, with smaller views of vacationers enjoying themselves in the town. There are several small holes along the center crease, but they are barely noticeable. 16x22 in. $90 114nj: 1882 Railroad Coal Piers, Hoboken New Jersey. Three hand-colored, engraved images from Scientific American, titled "The Gravity Coal Piers of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Co., Hoboken, N.J." At top is a birds eye view of the coal piers and docks. Center image shows the return switch at the river end of the pier. Bottom image is a view of the tracks, inclines and piers from the shore side. 11x16 in. $60 115nj: 1877: Cranberry Bog, Ocean County New Jersey. Hand colored engraving from Harpers Weekly, title "A Cranberry Bog, Ocean County, New Jersey: Pickers at Work." Large numbers of pickers are shown bending over the plants, and putting the berries into baskets. 11x16 in. $60 200nj: RARE Old Property Map: Monmouth Area, NJ. Interesting map of three locations in the Monmouth New Jersey area, published in an 1878 New Jersey atlas. The top image is titled "Monmouth Beach Property." It shows all of the lots in Monmouth Beach, with the names of property owners written on their lots. On the lower right side is a map of the town of Seabright, also showing individual lots. Lower left contains a map of Highland Grove, on the north side of Toms River, in Ocean County. Many lots are shown, all of which were the property of one man. This map is in very good condition, with no significant blemishes. The lower part of the left margin has been torn off, but the map image and border are intact. 14x33 in. $100 |
201nj: RARE Old View: Long Branch NJ, US Grant Home. Large, impressive engraving from the August 23, 1873 issue of Harpers Weekly, titled "Long Branch, from the Sea." Shows a birds-eye view of the town, with ships and sailboats in the foreground. Every along the shore is shown, and the name of each homeowner appears above or below the image. The second home from the left border is labeled as the house of President Grant. Beneath the image there is a large amount of text. Approx. 1/3 of the text is a descriptive article about the town of Long Branch. The remainder is part of a serialized novel titled "Strangers and Pilgrims," which was being published in Harpers at the time. This item is in very good condition, with no significant blemishes. It would look very impressive if framed!! 23x33 in. $220 202nj: 1868: New Jersey Life Saving, Lighthouse. This hand colored, wood-engraved print is from the Jan. 25, 1868 issue of Harper's Weekly. The print is titled "Among the Wreckers of the New Jersey Coast. It contains a large scene of life saving crews pulling half-drowned shipwreck victims from the ocean. Beneath that image, there are eight smaller images of lifesaving on the New Jersey shore. In the center of those scenes, there is a view of the Barnegat Light House. This print is in excellent condition. There are a few extremely small holes in the center crease, but they are barely noticeable. Size of the print is 16x22 in. $120 203nj: 1855 Colton Map of New Jersey. Beautifully engraved, hand-colored map of New Jersey from the first edition of Coltons world atlas, 1855. Cities, towns, major roads, railroad lines and geographical features are all shown. Each county is separately colored. The entire image is surrounded by a decorative border. Very good condition. 15x18 in. $150 204nj: 1881 New Jersey: Delaware River Shad Fisheries. Five hand-colored, engraved images on one page, from the May 21, 1881 issue of Leslies Weekly. Title is "New Jersey: Official Inspection of the Shad Fisheries of the Delaware, April 28th." Excellent condition. 11x16 in. $60 205nj: Hand colored wood engraving from the January 10, 1880 issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. Page titled, New Jersey. - The Wizard of Electricity - Thomas A. Edison's System of Electric Illumination. Shows both the outside and the interior of Edison's labratory, as well as some of his tools and machines. 16x11 in. $60 206nj: New Jersey. - The Wizard of Electricity - Thomas A.
