Colton's hand colored map of Dakota and Wyoming. This map was donebefore Dakota split into North and South. The eastern edge of the territory is divided into counties which are colored in different pastels. Mountains, rivers and Indian Reservations are also shown. It is surrounded by a lovely engraved decorative border, with sections of the territories breaking into the border. 14x17.5 in.

1860 Johnson's NEBRASKA, DAKOTA, COLORADO, IDAHO & KANSAS By Johnson and Ward. This antique hand-colored map displays the states of Idaho, Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado. Dakota is displayed as one state instead of being separated into north and south, and Idaho Territory occupies what is present day Wyoming and Montana. Map has a fancy border with a star in each corner and in very good condition.

1864 Map of Minnesota, Dakota. This fascinating map of Minnesota and the Dakota Territory was published in the 1864 edition of Johnson's Family Atlas. Minnesota is bordered on the western side by the Dakota Territory, which covers all of what is now North and South Dakota. Each county in Minnesota is individually hand colored, and the Dakota Territory is hand colored also. Major roads and railroad lines are shown throughout the area. There is a notation on the Dakota Territory which reads " The vast region of Pairies from Red River of the North and Mini Wakan L. to about the Gr. Bend of the Missouri R. is the great Hunting and Fighting Ground of the Dakota, Odjibwe, Assiniboin Arikara Minitarree and other Nations." A proposed Northern Route for the Pacific Railroad is shown running westward from St. Cloud, MN. This map is in excellent condition. The top margin is cut close to the border, but the border is intact.

1891 Remington Portraits in South Dakota. Hand colored, halftone engravings by Frederick Remington, published in Harper's Weekly. Title is "The Sioux Outbreak in South Dakota." Contains three portraits, each with its own caption: 1) "A United States Infantry Soldier in Winter Uniform;" 2) "The Medicine Man's Signal: Throwing Dust in the Air. Gray's Map of Dakota, with part of Manitoba 1883 - Very large scale original hand colored map of Dakotass before statehood, from The National Atlas, 118-119, special edition for Pennsylania. Shows railroads, some topography, Gazetteer data on reverse. North and South Dakota formed in 1889. The Dakotas get their names from the Lakota, or what we now know as the Sioux, a name they never used.
Condition: Very good, folded in the middle, with normal aging color. Size: 16.75 x 24.5
